I still see a lot of web developer profiles looking for jobs without a personal website or portfolio to showcase.

As a recruiter, I've always found that having a link to a website on a resume gave a real advantage during hiring.

But between Wordpress sites with questionable designs filled with overly personal info and Bootstrap templates crammed with animations, generic and as impersonal as possible, I've all too rarely seen simple sites that showcase the person in a clean, readable and professional way.

That's why I decided to develop a minimalist and accessible personal website template (in terms of design and code) aimed at web developers.

My constraints were:

  • No complex tooling, no framework: just plain HTML and CSS
  • No JavaScript required for the site to function
  • Perfectly responsive
  • Pleasant to look at, accessible and understandable
  • Easily customizable in both substance and form
  • A logical hierarchy of important information
  • Having clearly defined vertical sections that can be reordered to highlight certain parts of the profile if needed
  • SEO and Social Media friendly (open-graph and meta-data)

Here's how John Doe was born

In English, John Doe is an expression used to refer to an unidentified person or an average citizen: "Mr. X", "Mr. So-and-so", "Mr. Nobody-in-particular", "Mr. Everyman"
