Give your users the ability to know which part of your infrastructure is currently online

A status page is a public dashboard that lets you communicate the state of your systems to your users and makes your support team's job easier because your users can know at any moment whether their issue is widespread or not.
Here are some features offered by a complete status page:
- The current status of each service
- The uptime rate for previous days and the average rate for each service
- The list of incidents, their status and resolution details
- The ability to subscribe to status changes to stay informed about the return to normal
Thanks to the two free tools that I'm going to present in this article, you'll be able to build your page for free, in just a few clicks and with all the features presented above!
Instatus
Instatus is the platform that will offer you all these features and display them in a concise, clear, precise page that's also customizable!
All the features are free, and the pro version at $20 per month will simply let you use a custom domain name.
Here's the result of my Instatus page, which I was able to create with very little configuration: https://nicolas-brondin-bernard.instatus.com/

UptimeRobot
Instatus lets us have a beautiful, complete status page, but there's one thing the tool doesn't do, and that's continuously checking the status of your sites.
For that, Instatus integrates with many "ping test" tools, including the one I've chosen to recommend: "Uptime Robot".
I preferred this tool because its free plan is largely sufficient for most needs, it's easy to get to grips with and integrates really easily with Instatus.
In free mode, UptimeRobot limits checking your site to once every 5 minutes
To link UptimeRobot and Instatus, you'll simply need to enter the automatic management email address given by Instatus in the corresponding contact email field on UptimeRobot.
Every time the status of one of your sites changes, UptimeRobot will send a notification email, which will be processed by Instatus and the result will display directly on your status page!
