For a few years now, short coding bootcamps have been flourishing in France, and the number of junior web developers coming out of these schools is starting to explode.

So how can you stand out (and get hired) as a junior, when recruiters keep telling you that you lack experience?

This is a page that brings together several posts from my blog that will help you improve your profile, both in terms of technical skills and in terms of the impression you make on recruiters.

Improving your technical skills

Even though it's important to know how to sell yourself, the real key to success remains technical skill (and professional experience). But what's great about web development is that you don't need anything more than a machine and motivation.

Creating projects, practicing, experimenting—this improves your technical skills but also your soft skills (project management, design, etc.), and the best part of it all is that if you focus enough of your time and energy on a particular project, it becomes professional experience!

Improving your profile

Even when your skills are sufficient, your profile needs to be showcased well enough for people to notice you, or at least to remember you.

If I come across a resume with no photo, no link to a website or a Github, the chances of me remembering your name are quite low. But if you have a simple, well-designed personal website, and your Github contains a few well-presented projects explained in fairly complete README files, your name (and your photo) will stick in the back of my mind!

Remember that the more you prepare for an interview (whether it's the technical part or the personal part), the more you'll be able to naturally deliver the expected information, and the less your stress will take over.

Knowing yourself, your strengths and your weaknesses, and taking the time to prepare for technical tests are two essential points!
