The 9 Best Podcasts for French-Speaking Developers

There are dozens and dozens of tech-related podcasts on the internet, but at the end of the day, few of them are truly centered on developers and their profession.

This selection therefore lists the developer podcasts I listen to most regularly. No news about the latest iPhone release here, but topics centered on code, infrastructure, management, software craftsmanship, and technical excellence in general:

#1 - Message à caractère informatique

Clever Cloud is a French cloud hosting provider offering a high-quality service, and it also produces a weekly podcast bringing together 4 of their experts each time to discuss news in the world of development (ranging from very low-level topics to Javascript frameworks).

The strong point of this podcast is the guests' ability to simplify the topics covered to make them accessible, even if the technologies are outside your business stack.

#2 - WeLoveDevs - Le Podcast

WeLoveDevs is a specialized recruitment platform for developers that I regularly recommend, and it creates a lot of content around developers' lives, teams, and their recruitment.

I think this podcast is a goldmine for junior developers looking for a job, because the guests—whether CEOs, CTOs, recruiters, or developers—very regularly talk about their recruitment methods and what they expect from a developer.

#3 - France Inter - Le code a changé

Through a very different narrative thread each time, Xavier de La Porte allows us to glimpse the inner workings of tech behind a use, an object, or a story through his novice eyes, thanks to the limitless relevance of his guests.

Just for the episode titled "Dans un avion, confie-t-on sa vie à des logiciels" with Gérard Berry, this podcast is well worth it—it's a must-listen episode!

#4 - Artisan Développeur

If you like short formats and the subject of Software Craftsmanship (or Agile more broadly) interests you, this is probably THE must-listen podcast on the topic.

The topics are often covered through interviews with other developers, but you'll also find Benoit's logbook, in which he recounts his adventure launching his own SaaS.

#5 - Paroles de Tech Leaders

You'll discover what managing IT teams and designing large-scale infrastructures really means through interviews with tech leaders from major national and international companies like Netflix, OpenClassrooms, Blablacar, Docker, and many others...

If I had to recommend one episode above all others, it would undoubtedly be the one on "backup and recovery strategies," which taught me an enormous amount about data backup at a hosting provider.

#6 - If This Then Dev

The idea behind the creation of "If This Then Dev" is simple: invite engineers and IT experts to explain, through their experiences, how a technology, a concept, a project management approach, a philosophy, etc., works.

Beyond being very interesting, this podcast brings innovation, as some episodes are "recompiled," meaning a different guest is invited to react and share their thoughts on the original episode, and a second perspective on a topic is always a very good thing.

I must recommend that you at least listen to the 2020 retrospective episode with Quentin Adam, probably my favorite episode!

It's the perfect format between news, programming, and general tech.

Even though it's not the podcast I listen to the most, some episodes are must-listens (like the one on generating an 11,000-page static site)

The classic format remains: two hosts, one guest, and one main topic per episode, and it works very well! Note that this is one of the only podcasts that focuses exclusively on web development!

Yes, this is self-promotion. But I'm proud of the result, and the feedback from listeners confirms to me that the episodes are worth listening to!

Depending on the episode, I simplify technical concepts, explain the history behind certain technologies, and also invite developers who aren't usually heard elsewhere on the net!

Bonus - The Mature Developer

Less focused on technical matters and more on project creation, SaaS, and entrepreneurship, this podcast will particularly suit developers who want to embark on the entrepreneurial adventure and aim for the Holy Grail: MRR, or Monthly Recurring Revenue.

I've put this podcast as a bonus because Anthony recently announced that he's stopping the podcast format, as he felt he'd covered the topic thoroughly, but I think listening to the older episodes remains just as relevant!
