Top 4 websites for learning web development in French

Several months ago I published an article titled "The 5 best sites to practice programming" that you loved so much that it's now one of the most read articles on the blog!

But as you'll have understood, this previous article is aimed at developers who already have a bit of programming experience, and not at people wanting to learn programming from scratch.

That's why I decided to share with you my list of reference sites for learning web development, whether free or paid, but with the following specifics:

• That they are available in French
• That they contain complete courses, and not just a list of tutorials

So here is my list of the best platforms to learn web development from scratch in 2020:

OpenClassrooms

Free

I have to recommend this site because it's thanks to it (formerly SiteDuZéro) and its founder Mathieu Nebra that I am a web developer today.

The site is very well made, contains hundreds of very well written courses (on a huge number of different subjects), complemented by videos and quizzes, and it's accessible for free.

The platform's strong point is that it now offers the possibility of following a real online curriculum, with a professional certification at the end, which can be funded by Pôle Emploi (depending on the region).

Youtube

Free

Yes indeed, Youtube is now a platform overflowing with resources for learning programming, many of them in French, with some complete courses on web development.

I can't fail to mention Grafikart's channel, which accompanies so many beginner developers in their learning of web technologies with complete video courses.

Udemy

Paid

Udemy is a video course platform owned by Google and currently the leader in the online course market (100,000 courses available), a good portion of which are aimed at developers.

The courses are generally very well filmed, the most followed instructors have a very professional result, and the courses are comprehensive (37 hours of video for the most popular course on web programming).

Signing up for the platform is free but the content is paid. The prices sometimes represent a significant investment, but you get a big discount on your first course purchase, and you receive a certificate of completion at the end of your course.

Mozilla Developer Network

Free

The web development course offered by Mozilla focuses exclusively on the front-end part of web development, but it's a resource made available by one of the pillars of the web, very attached to its standards and to good development practices.

I want to emphasize that Mozilla, unlike the other sites on this list, is a non-profit foundation whose goal is to ensure that the web remains a public resource, open and accessible to everyone.

In addition to offering a complete course, the MDN (Mozilla Developer Network) is THE reference documentation on the main web technologies (HTML, CSS and Javascript).

I haven't had the chance to go through Pierre's site to train myself, but his site came up very often among the sites recommended by blog readers, so I'm including it here—you'll surely find excellent resources there!

Dyma (Paid)

According to the community, Dyma is a platform containing very comprehensive courses, ranging from HTML/CSS all the way to Linux administration and Docker. Access to the courses is through a subscription of €50 per month, which remains affordable in terms of pricing if the content lives up to expectations.
