Overvaluing one's projects

As with building or renovating a house, the actual completion time of a development project is always longer than the estimate that was made.

In the construction industry, people talk about it taking 3 to 4 times longer; it's not necessarily that much in IT, but delays are still often underestimated, particularly regarding project follow-up and maintenance, and this becomes a significant issue.
