The GRESN (general reference framework)

The French regulatory framework is fairly recent, but it greatly benefited from the work of the collectives and organizations mentioned in this course.
Following the State's growing interest in the environmental impact of digital technology, the REEN law (Réduction de l'Empreinte Environnementale du Numérique, i.e. Reducing the Environmental Footprint of Digital Technology) was adopted in 2021.
Since 2022, it has required public digital services to comply with an eco-design reference framework.
This reference framework is the RGESN: Référentiel Général d'Éco-conception de Services Numériques (General Reference Framework for Eco-designing Digital Services), which you can consult online.
