Personal Data

Personal data refers to any information that allows a natural person to be identified, directly or indirectly.

Direct identification is easily detectable, a person's first and last name alone is enough to identify them 95% of the time (barring exceptions), but this is also the case with an email address, a phone number, or even more sensitive data such as a social security number.

Indirect identification, on the other hand, is more insidious and harder to control.
