Software licenses

Software licenses define the conditions under which source code can be used, modified, and distributed.

There are two main families of licenses: open-source licenses (FOSS) and proprietary licenses.

Proprietary licenses are simply licenses that restrict the use of source code and may impose license fees for the use of the code or software.
